Our Story
Lewie's Gelato Sandwiches is a local small business based in Scottsdale, AZ. The concept came about thanks to the uniqueness of the shortage of gelato sandwiches in the valley; my consultant/associate and I decided to give it all to showcase this fabulous traditional Italian dessert here in Scottsdale, AZ. Having an Italian/Greek background, I remember how wonderful it was to enjoy this fantastic dessert. Now my dream is a reality, and we bring it to you to enjoy. Our motto is "Creating delicious Italian treats with passion and love."

What is Gelato?
In Italian, it means frozen. So it is a frozen dessert with an intense flavor, texture, and aftertaste.
Gelato is a creamy, velvety ice cream. Contradictory to regular ice cream that has 13% to 25% butterfat and 75% to 80% air incorporation, gelato has about 3% to 7% butterfat with 20% air incorporation. This makes for a lighter, airier, more refreshing frozen dessert experience.
Gelato History
Gelato origins trace back to Mesopotamia, Egypt, and ancient Persia, where it was a frozen dessert made of snow, ice, fruit juice, and honey. The Arabs introduced the sherbet, and in the south of Italy, the sorbet and granita.
In the 16th century, Bernardo Buontalenti prepared his milk-based creation for the famous and powerful Medici family in Florence, Italy. During this period, this dessert was an indulgent treat for the nobility and the wealthy.
It took time and effort, but later on this delicious dessert was widespread throughout Italy and Europe. The invention of gelato-making machines by Francesco Procopio de Coltelli in the late 1600s made it possible to produce and preserve gelato easily.
In the late 1700s, the Italians that came to America introduced the gelato, and the rest is history. Lewie's Gelato Sandwiches are part of this history, focusing on the excellence, quality ingredients, and tradition that are produced by gelato masters, which are handcrafted into this beautiful and delicious gelato sandwich.

It is an incredible idea to mix a great frozen dessert into a warm bun; the combination of the two makes it a great way to enjoy an Italian tradition.
Our concept is excellent: the gelato is put in between two closed buns, then into the Gelato Machine Press and toasted while the gelato inside is still cold, resulting in a warm, tender, and aromatic bun with the cold, velvety sweet gelato. Once you take a bite, you will experience the warm and cold mix of soft, tender, creamy dessert.

Our locally sourced ingredients make it a rich and fresh combination to enjoy anywhere. We source our gelato from the award-winning best of Phoenix, best of the valley, and TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, "Cool Gelato Italiano," a local gelateria here in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona. The owners and masters of gelato, Alberto della Casa (Modena, Italy) and Letizia de Lucia (Chieti, Italy), have been making gelato for over a decade, from traditional flavors such as Stracciatella, Chocolate, Mixed Berries, Mango, Salted Caramel, and Bronte Pistachio PDO, which will become one of your favorites.
Locally source bread
Since the 1970s, Capistrano’s Bakery has been a locally owned favorite, filling the Valley with the smell of fresh bread and pastries made with care.
